Moonlight in the Daylight

I finished the knitting and seaming of my Moonlight cardigan last weekend, but had to wait for my zipper to arrive before I could call it a finished object.

The zipper came in, and surprise surprise, I didn't take months to install it! The installation actually went very quickly Thursday night, and I'm curled up in my computer chair, typing this post, as I wear a completed, and well fitting new cardigan!

Okay, enough chit chat... you want pictures!

Plenty of room for the belly in this sweater!

I love the back detail. It makes this sweater look so tailored

...and just barely closing with some morning sun in my eyes!

And now for the specs:

I L O V E this sweater! I'm sure I'll be wearing it all of the time... like to Knitsmiths tomorrow!

Double Knit With Me!

So, I'm having a December baby... as in, her first few months will be January and February... in Boston! This baby needs a hat. No, this baby needs a warm hat! This baby needs a double knit hat, don't you think?

I've made a few double knit projects before:

Mike's Double Knit Hat

Jenny's Fish Hat

and a headband as part of a class I was teaching.

I really enjoy the technique, I love the end product, and it's a little bit technically challenging, while still just being a hat. Alison posted a great pattern a while ago for one, and I'm sure there are plenty of others out there online and off.

So, have I convinced you that double knit hats (or mittens or scarves or whatever else) are what you give the ones you really love? Yes? Well, then knit along with me! I have a wedding present I need to finish first, so that gives you time to think about it, and me time to make a button. I'm starting October 8th, are you in?

Stash For Sale!

Call it nesting if you must; it's 6AM on a weekday and I'm cleaning out the stash. A little purge never did anyone any harm!

14 skeins of Classic Elite Duchess
Color #1015 Yarndex shows the color better on my screen.
Lot #256
I bought this yarn for a design project that won't really work with the status of my belly at the moment! I could hold onto it, it's luxurious yarn, but why? It's the perfect season to be knitting with this yarn, and someone should be... it should be you!
Retail = $10/skein = $140
Your Price = $95

Make me an offer! The baby sanity needs this yarn to be out of my yarn closet. Who knows, more may be sent away soon too!

Almost There!

Do you know what this means?

Click for a bit more of a preview.

The Moonlight sweater is blocking; now I'm just waiting for the zipper to come! Hopefully it will be in Tuesday's mail, and hopefully my sweater will be dry enough by then to put it in!

I have two full skeins of this yarn leftover, and a very large ball from another skein. (I haven't weighted it yet, but I bet it's at least a half a skein.) I'm planning on putting it onto Ebay, but wanted to offer it up here first. The yarn is Rowanspun Aran, color #962 "Caviar", Lot 22B1. 16st/4" 219 yards. It is a discontinued yarn that retailed for $13/skein. I'd gladly sell both for $20 including shipping, and I'll throw in my extra half skein as well. Email me, or leave a comment if you want it, otherwise it's off to Ebay with it next week.

Oooh, Grey Ribbing

Remember those sweater pieces from the last post... still in a pile.

Remember the little bit of a swatch on the top of the photo... it's changed into this:

To keep myself motivated I've been marking off how much progress I've made every day. Tuesday was slow! Yesterday, not so slow! This is my new sock knitting, so I can throw in a round every now and then and actually get somewhere!

Think of how much obligation knitting I could have gotten done in the last three days. le sigh

Not Quite Too Busy To Knit

...but definitely too busy to blog about it, so here's a teaser...

That is all of the completed pieces of the Rowan Moonlight Cardigan! Just some seaming to do and some cooling off of the weather and I'll be wearing it to Rhienbeck!

...oh, and what's that up at the top? That grey yarn doesn't seem to match. Oh right, it's the start of a new project! Yes, I have lots of things going on, yes, lots of them are on deadline, but one needs a cake project too, and this one was a request.

Looking For a Hooker

Last Christmas I had this great idea of crocheting little baskets to give out Christmas cookies in... I did one, and that was it!

I can wing a little (or big) round basket, but I'd really like to make a rectangular basket for some baby things. My question is logisical. Please, tell me if my thoughts make sense.

Rather than starting with a small ring and crocheting around (like the start of a hat), I would make a rectangle by doing rows back and forth. Once the base is big enough I would pick up around the edges and work in the round from there.

Will that work? Will the sides be too rounded? Do I have to do something special at the "corners" of the basket to make it be more square than oval or oblong?

Please, hookers, come out of the closet and give me some advice!

Serious Case of Sweater Lust

I'm working away on my Moonlight Cardigan, the second front is almost finished! There are quite a few other projects I should be working on (and am working on a bit, just not with extreme dedication). There's lots of yarn in the stash, but I've come down with a severe case of sweater lust.

New blogger Meg recently posted a pre-blog FO. She calls it Paige's Sweater, I call it fabulous! The picture is quite dark, but click on it to make it bigger, really... it's worth it.

Not only is Meg a great knitter, and good at picking out stunning patterns, she's wonderfully nice and helpful too and even helped me track down a copy of the pattern! Wow, what a blogger!

Now the question is, does anyone out there have six skeins of Donegal Tweed languishing in their stash waiting for a trade or a sale? I could buy some, (if I do I'll wait until the Moonlight Cardigan is finished), but I thought I'd see if I could help turn over someone's stash first.

I Started On Something For ME!

Thanks to no help from you guys, (I know, the comments must have been broken that day!), I solved my brown cardigan dilema from last week.

It turns out that the Rowanspun Aran yarn I was going to use, is a shade of brown itself. I see a lot of purple tones in it, it's certainly not a chocolate brown, but a nice fall color that's missing from my cardigan wardrobe? Definitely!

The Moonlight sweater is knit on size 9 needles, the other on 6s. I thought, why not start this one first, and then knit the other if I have time. There is also the benifit of going from a pattern! Much less thought is a good thing these days; I had a hard enough time figuring out what size to make, please don't make me make design decisions!

Not too bad, one front and the back done. The second front is started, but I'm not too far into it yet. Hopefully this picture shows the color a bit more. It's quite nice, lots of subtle undertones. Definitely an undefinable color, and I love it!

Off to work, maybe I'll get some knitting in today, wouldn't that be lovely?

First September Socks!

Happy Labor Day to everyone! I'll spend the day half working, and half working on socks!

I finished up this little pair, just a bit too late for an August Brownie Point, but in plenty of time for them to count as my September Socks in the Sock-A-Month 2 KAL. I've been having fun using up some leftovers to make baby socks. I actually have one more pair totally done, but I can't find one of them to photograph them! Hopefully some time soon though, and definitely before December!

Off to "weave in" some loose ends on some other projects! Enjoy the day.
